Over the years, Rabun Gap Middle School has had dessert. Except for now! In the school year of 2017-2018, Mr. Nowack has decided to remove dessert from the middle school everyday except for Friday. Of course, the students are not especially pleased. In fact, of the staff and students we surveyed,  84 people want dessert back while a mere 12 do not want it back.

Mrs. McGee, the librarian, was conflicted. She said, “I only come to the middle school once a week, and I must say, I enjoyed the dessert”. Another adult informed us sugar can actually help students interact/participate. Online we found that “sugar does not affect kids or their behavior”. The misconception comes from the idea that high blood sugar levels translate into increased hyperactivity. This is not true. A student who has diabetes informed us that he only has trouble when his blood sugar is over 300. This is almost impossible for non-diabetic kids. All this information is shocking, and we wonder if the school will bring back dessert or not.
